Shifting Political Landscapes in Europe: Poland’s Role || WEBINAR RECORDING

AIPC

On Monday, November 16 at 11:00 am, The American Institute of Polish Culture (AIPC) and FIU presented the second free live webinar as part of the Blanka Rosenstiel Lecture Series on Poland at FIU – Shifting Political Landscapes in Europe: Poland’s Role. The key note speaker was the renowned historian and best-selling author, Norman Davies, PhD; Ambassador Piotr Wilczek of Poland to the US  delivered the opening remarks.

For those of you who did not get a chance to join us, you can watch the recorded lecture here:

Professor Norman Davies is a preeminent scholar of history, who teaches and writes about it with integrity and respect; he is particularly passionate about the complicated history of Poland. The book that established his reputation is a comprehensive overview of Polish history titled, God’s Playground: a History of Poland (1981), which made him immensely popular in Poland and after 1989 became required school reading. Other popular works are the Heart of Europe: the Past in Poland’s Present (1984), Rising ’44: the Battle for Warsaw(2003), and Vanished Kingdoms: the History of Half-forgotten Europe (2013).

He has been a great friend of Poles around the world for his dedication to correcting the persistent historical distortions about Poland, especially those related to the Holocaust. He received a Gold Medal from AIPC in 1998 and lectured at FIU in 2004, promoting his book Rising ’44 about the Warsaw Uprising.

Dr. Davies is currently an Honorary Fellow of St Antony’s at Oxford. He has held positions at leading universities in the UK, America, Japan, Australia and Poland. He was elected to the British Academy in 1997 and was awarded England’s CMG in 2001 “for extraordinary and important service in history.” In 2012 he was granted Poland’s highest award — membership in the Order of the White Eagle.
