More about this book

These stories are Rafal Olbinski's personal, not necessarily the only, interpretation of his paintings, most of which were created much earlier. When painting them, the artist never envisioned any later literary adaptation.

His intention was not a faithful translation of his visual vision into words. He treated each painting as a starting point for telling an intriguing story. It is easy to describe what one sees; it is much harder to turn that description into drama, to contain it between a beginning and an ending, and to awaken both the intellect and the heart. The artist accomplished this remarkably well.

The illustrations come from the painter's private archive and from galleries and museums abroad.

Opowiadania te sa proba jego osobistej, niekoniecznie jedynej interpretacji obrazow, ktore na ogol powstawaly o wiele wczesniej. Material ilustracyjny pochodzi z prywatnego archiwum malarza, ale takze z zagranicznych galerii i muzeow.

More about this book

Wszystkie moje zyciowe zakrety zwykle powodowal „ktos”. Tym razem tym „kims” byl Jan Byrczek. To dzieki niemu wsiadlem wtedy w samolot do Nowego Jorku, sciskajac w reku paszport i polroczna wize.

O swoich trudnych poczatkach w Nowym Jorku i o rozwijaniu skrzydel, o ludziach, ktorych tam spotykal, i o obrazach, ktore tam tworzyl, pisze Rafal Olbinski dowcipnie, z rozbrajajacym humorem, z dystansem do siebie. Jest jazz, jest polska szkola plakatu, jest Kosinski, Glowacki i cala tratwa artystow, polonijnych rozbitkow czasow stanu wojennego, sa wreszcie zaskakujace zbiegi okolicznosci.
